Lacourye Boat projects near Thaprek

We arrived at Lacourye Boat near Thaprek on April 25, 2023, after an 8-hour drive from Kathmandu. The village was in the mountains at 1100 meters above sea level. We took a steep path to get up there. The local leader Mr Narayan Kathepipal welcomed us into his house and all the villagers were there.

For a month, we shared their daily life, accommodation, and meals with the family, to become familiar with their culture and their disadvantages, the lack of water, the rare means of transport, power cuts, and no Wi-Fi. We have set up tests for sowing European seeds on their land, with the community which has given us a portion of the land.

The current projects of the village are the servicing of the stony mountain roads by tarring them, making traffic easier and less dangerous. Faced with their problem of lack of drinking water, they undertook the construction of a 20,000-liter water reservoir at the bottom of the valley connected to a second reservoir higher up to supply the village. For this, they do all the work without any mechanical tools and carry all the materials on their backs. We are waiting for the opening of the community house to be able to share our knowledge in various fields.
